We heart Mount Fitz Roy

Perfect weather has been the theme of our trip thus far- our good omen if you will. When we first arrived to the small village of El Chalten via a three hour bus ride from El Calafate, the park ranger at the visitor center pointed to the clear blue skies above and said, "It's never like this, you're lucky!". To take advantage of this rare sunshine predicted for the next few days, we loaded up our packs again and headed up into the mountains (the trailhead quite literally begins at the end of El Chalten's one and only main road) for a weekend exploring Argentina's Parque Nacional Los Glaciares.

Our original plan was to camp for two nights, but after an unexpectedly frigid first night and the knowledge that town (aka hot soup and beds) was only a two hour hike away, we reconsidered our options. With so many trails to choose from, we spent the rest of our days going back and forth between our El Chalten hostel, the mountains and a local microbrewery serving frothy draft pilsners and homemade Locro- a traditional Argentine beef and veggie stew.
