Not every glacier is receding - a day trip to Patagonia's Perito Moreno
Who knew glaciers could be the highlight of so many posts?! After spending a few days recuperating from our first trek in the quaint and cutsie El Calafate, we took a 45 minute bus ride out of town to visit the magnificent Perito Moreno Glacier, the largest glacier in Patagonia. While my reaction to Glacier Grey in Torres del Paine was one of misty-eyed surprise, my reaction to Perito Moreno was plain disbelief. Disbelief at its power and blinding blues, its growing rate (2 meters a day from the center!) and thunderous booms as sheets of ice fell into the water below. We spent hours marveling at the endless crevasses and formations that stretched into the mountains behind it. Well done, Nature, you've blown our minds again.
